For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to do what I
do...My first real memory of wanting to be a performer was watching
Micheal Jackson perform live on TV in front of thousands of people. I
got off the couch and just started screaming and dancing in front of the
screen. I had this overwhelming sensation take over me and I started
crying! I looked back at my parents and said "I dont even know why Im
crying. It just feel so good". I was in that laughing, crying confused
convulsing state. I remember feeling an overwhelming amount of joy.
Seeing all those people in one room all for the same reason just gave me
such a rush.
So after that I was always singing around the
house, in the car on the way to school, in school, during class at
karate, during my hockey practice, pretty much all the time. My hockey
coach told me If I scored a hat trick I could sing the national anthem
at the Anaheim Ducks game (he owned the team or something). I scored a
hat trick. So a few weeks later there I am in front of 16,000 people. 9
years old in my little gray suit and my bad ass mullet just belting!That
was it I had the itch. I tried to perform everywhere I could. I would
cover green day, Korn, Nirvana and Metallica songs at Barmitvas and
school gatherings. I had little bands that me and my friends would put
together. "Stale Fish", "The Magnetic forces", the list goes on. Then
suddenly out of no where, life kicked in. I started dealing with real
problems. I fell in love, I lost people in my life, I was growing up!
Out of no where I had the urge to write music, just performing other
people music wasn't enough anymore. I had a fire inside of me and I
needed people to feel it. I didn't want to be Kurt or Eddie or Billie
anymore I wanted to be me.
I started a band called Dillusion when
I was about 13. The music was young and raw and very aggressive. We
played all over LA and really had something original. When I was around
18 Dilluison got signed to Epic records. Jack Osbourne (Ozzys son) found
us at the Whisky in Hollywood and got us a deal. We did some really
cool things.We had a song on the Osbourne Family soundtrack along with
other artist you may know such as John Lennon, Eric Clapton, Chevelle
and some others. If you go back and watch the show you will get a kick
out of it. Im on the show all the time just hanging out. That band broke
up in 2002. The DJ is now Preston from the group "Hyper Crush" and the
guitar player is Casey Crescenzo "The Dear Hunter".
After that I
went and played Bass, then drums in a band called "Stereo Black"
fronted by the old guitarist of "Machine Head" Logan Mader. That didnt
last long.
I had a serious need for something new and fresh. I
started writing songs in the late hours of the night for AMP in 2004. I
was in a shitty destructive relationship on a downward spiral to who
knows where. Those songs saved my life. My studio was my escape and my
vitamins to fixing who I was becoming.
So here I am about 6
years later touring around the country with After Midnight Project
performing most of the same songs every night. However in the past 5
months I had an epiphany... Performing... that had
become the problem. I feel in the past year Ive just been performing.
Now Im not saying I have not been writing any new material, because I
write every day. What I am saying is I was getting on stage every night
and ONLY performing. I would run through the motions and put on a show.
Now I understand you want to be entertained, that is my job. I am an
entertainer, a performer and show man. BUT I cant forget that I am an
artist and that every one of these songs means so much to me! The
problem was, they had become just songs. Its like as if I was performing
someone else's music. Again dont get me wrong this past year has been
one of the most amazing years of my life, but there was something
missing on stage.

In the past few months I've made sure that every night I give the
show a different approach (in my head at least) . I make sure that I
feel every word I am singing. I make sure that I listen to every nuance
in the guitars. I dont only listen to the pounding of the kick drum, I
party with it I dance with it. I do what it tells me to do. I make sure
that in those 45 minutes I take it all in and dont miss a thing. Let me
give you an example. Its like driving through the mountains on a
beautiful day, and passing a beautiful river where theres deer and other
wild life and amazing colorful trees right in front of you but instead
of breathing it all in and really enjoying the scenery you just drive
right by it, trying to get to get to your next destination. If I am only
performing on stage, the artist in me is sitting on the sidelines
watching and waiting in disappointment. I'm 26 now and I can look back
at my life and say I have been blessed with an amazing family, brilliant
friends and this thing inside of me someone thousands of years ago
decided to call music. I'm gonna keep going, keep performing and always
make sure the my pallet holding all my colors never dries up
